Scandinavian TV Series "Thannanaya" in Poland

Danish producers spent two months in Poland filming a Scandinavian family TV series "Thannanaya". Poland was selected thanks to the large variety of available locations.

"Thannanaya" is a production of Danish public broadcaster Denmark DR DRAMA, which during Christmas broadcasts very popular family TV series. “Thannanaya” is a 24-episode fantasy series about a 12-year-old Teodor, who has no friends apart from his beloved grandpa Harold. Using a magic key, the boy is transported to a magical, fairy-tale land, where he decides to find grandma, Harold’s wife who passed away and whom Teodor has never met.

The project was directed by Peter Gornstein and produced by Nynne Selin Eidnes. The Polish executive producer was No Sugar Films, a company specialising in servicing foreign productions (among others "Denial", "A Return to Grace: Luther's Life and Legacy").

The filming in Poland took 27 days with substantial participation of the Polish crew. The series was shot in autumnal and winter landscapes of Stołowe Mountains, the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland and the Słowiński National Park.

‘The Danish producers were looking for very diverse locations within one country to do justice to the story. Among their requirements were mountains, caves, deserts, primeval forests and sea cliffs,’ says Marta Habior from No Sugar Films. ‘In the end we managed to find all of them here in Poland.’

The TV series will premiere on the 1st of December 2018 in the Danish TV.
