Telewizja Polska is a state enterprise and the only public broadcaster in Poland. It transmits thirteen television channels, which include genre-based channels devoted to history and to culture, as well as Belsat TV, a satellite channel broadcasting in Belarusian. The TVP VoD channel also belongs to Telewizja Polska.
The organisational unit responsible for production within TVP is the Television and Film Production Agency. In turn, the tasks of the International Affairs Office include the purchase and sale of rights and licences and the co-ordination of international co-productions. TVP also has sixteen regional divisions. They are located in Białystock, Bydgoszcz, Gdańsk, Gorzów Wielkopolski, Katowice, Kielce, Krakow, Lublin, Łódź, Olsztyn, Opole, Poznań, Rzeszów, Szczecin, Warsaw and Wrócław and local production agencies operate within each of them. Canal+ Cyfrowy represents the French Canal+ Group in Poland. A premium television broadcaster, it transmits twenty-eight channels, the majority of which are devoted to film and sport. Together with the ITI Group, Canal+ owns the nc+ digital satellite platform, which was established as a result of the merging of the n platform and Cyfra+ and currently has 2 300 000 subscribers. Canal+ Cyfrowy produces television series and is involved in the co-production of Polish feature films.
HBO Polska, which is part of HBO Europe, belongs to the American Home Box Office holding. A premium television broadcaster, it transmits eleven film channels. HBO Polska produces documentaries and television series and is occasionally involved in the co-production of feature films. Documentary films made with the participation of HBO Polska are frequent award winners at both national and international festivals.
Telewizja Puls (Sp. z o.o.) broadcasts two channels devoted to general programming; TV Puls and Puls 2. The primary focus is on films, series, lifestyle programmes and light entertainment.
Telewizja Polsat belongs to the Cyfrowy Polsat company. It transmits twenty-four television channels, which include genre-based channels devoted to sport, film, lifestyle and other subjects. Cyfrowy Polsat is also the largest digital satellite platform in Poland, with more than 3 500 000 subscribers and it ranks fourth in Europe in terms of size. The Ipla Internet television and VoD also belongs to the company. Telewizja Polsat is the owner of the Polskie Media group, which broadcasts two channels; TV4, featuring general programming and TV6, transmitting light entertainment such as telenovelas, games shows and the original versions of popular reality and talent shows. In the main, Telewizja Polsat produces television series and serials.
TVN (S.A.) belongs to an American media
company Scripps Network Interactive. The company currently offers 13 TV
channels, including thematic channels - news stations, automotive, movie, women’s interest channel etc. TVN provides
an extensive range of online products, including a video-on-demand service -
Player.pl and an entertainment video platform - Veedo.pl. The broadcaster’s
portfolio encompasses TVN Agency, offering the extensive range of services
in news production and distribution in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as
TVN Media – the advertising brokerage office. TVN together
with Groupe Canal+ S.A. jointly operate a Polish premium direct-to-home
(“DTH”) digital satellite platform nC+. The company is a partner to Ringier
Axel Springer Media AG (“RAS”), which operates Onet.pl - Poland’s top internet
TVN produces feature films and television series.
